I have a fiance who writes very well. He once wrote me poems. Yes, once upon a time, if he still remembers.
I was brought up in a 100% Mandarin speaking environment. Think in mandarin, sleep in mandarin, dream in mandarin.. I love mandarin. I had written hundreds of essays in Chinese. I had read thousands of Chinese books, sang quite hundreds of Chinese songs, watched countless of Chinese movies/TV drama. There are just something about this language, I love this language.
I started to speak in English when I came to KL to study. Then I met Ray in 2008, someone who speaks in English only.
He then became my English teacher. He corrected my spoken/written English grammar. I'm blessed. However, to be honest, sometimes I felt agitated. I just felt like he was laughing at my English grammatical mistakes.
Yes, we do suffer with communication break down a lot of times. I just couldn't find the right words to express my feelings. He allowed me to use Mandarin to express, and he would reply in English.
We are still working hard to communicate with each other. Now, we realise that an effective communication is more than just breaking through language barrier, but also expressing our needs and expectations in a tactful way.
Art of communication.

We danced
It's hard to believe that we're both going to be married.
It was only 4 years ago that I met Yee See. It was not love at first sight as most tend to believe. We met at my ex-college mate's wedding committee meeting. I remembered the first time I saw her... it wasn't a very flattering picture, oily skin, messy hair, runny nose and not to mention the weird dressing.
Totally not my type.
We were paired up pretty quickly for the wedding dance practices. I remembered the awkward moments when we held hands. I thought,
"This girl... dunno how to hold hands... never had a boy friend before issit? -_-''
It wasn't until a couple of more dance practices that she opened up a bit. I could see that she was starting to feel a lot more comfortable, but still, we didn't talk much. I thought the epic age gap was to be blamed as there wasn't anything much that we could talk about. If you're looking for any chemistry at this point in time, there's zero. Besides, I wasn't interested in her romantically. Well, not yet at least.
I thought to myself, there's no way am I going to go out with this girl even if there was any slight interest. It's just impossible and of course, not practical. We're talking about a 7 years age gap here. Scandalous dating a college kid :D
Who knew that God had an awesome plan for the both of us.
After the wedding, we kept in touch through Skype, Facebook and Twitter. It wasn't until she followed me on Twitter that I got interested. I mean, back there not many people heard of Twitter.
That pique my interest a little.
I also got to know how close she is with her dad and the amazing relationship they have.
That pique my interest a little more.
Off and on we'll be in contact over the phone, SMS, Skype ... but most of the time she would be the one initiating them. Well, I was only interested in being friends, nothing more.
There was this one occasion that I was driving out for a meeting and I got an SMS from her saying that she had prayed for me. That action was all it took for me to decide that this girl was worth pursuing.
God really opened by eyes. I began to see her differently. I think she prayed very hard hahahahaha ... Seriously, everything about her suddenly became attractive. Things that I've never noticed, I've began to notice. Everything that I had secretly prayed for in a life partner was in front of me all along.
We've had our ups and downs, but every experience was worth it. Looking back, I could had missed this girl, glad I didn't.

Our story
From the Bride
In less than 200 days, I will be walking down the aisle, to my favourite man.
He went down to his knee on 15th of Jan 2012, presenting a diamond ring to me, just like a movie, at the tallest al-fresco restaurant in the world. He popped the question in Mandarin. I looked into his eyes, these were the eyes filled with sincerity and truthfulness. I paused for a while and replied, “Yes, I do.” Our friends rushed in and joined us in the celebration. It was a wonderful night.
Uhm.. Time for some reflections..
I knew Rayson at the end of 2008. We were in a mutual couple’s bridal party. I was one of the bridesmaids, while he was one of the groomsmen. We were paired in a dance. He was rather quiet and we did not talk much at first. He did not gave any special impressions in his speech.
After a few meetings and dance practices, we still did not talk much. It was awkward when we held each other hands and danced. There was no chemistry at all between us.
One of the good habits I observed from Rayson is that he is very punctual. He was always early for every meeting and practice sessions. Sometimes he even waited in his car when everyone else was late. He has very good manners. He greeted the bride’s mum and even chit chatted with her. He offered help when the couple needed his help. He may look serious, but actually he is very gentle and sensible.
Then, we were connected through social networks: Twitter and Facebook. Out of curiosity, I read his blog. I thought it would be an empty blog, with lots of pictures and few words.
Well, his blog surprised me with hundreds of posts since 2003! I picked some of them and started to read.
He writes very well. I was very impressed. Another surprise, I could relate to how he process his thoughts, it’s similar to mine!
I thought, it would be better if I could get to know this guy better. It didn’t happen during the rehearsal night. But we started to talk. Guess what question did I asked? “Oh, you are going cell group meeting tomorrow night. Are you a cell group leader?” Our conversation ended when he replied me “No, I’m not.”
During the wedding day, I was hoping to know him better, because that will be the last chance. Thank God, before our last dance, he got my contact number.
And our stories, began from there.
